Whatever happened to common sense...
Ok. So we're out Friday using Maryn's Book-It certificate. Pizza Hut is extremely busy and they have to sit us out in the small room that only has a few tables. You would think that this would make for a quieter dining experience. That's not exactly so. Much to our delight we got to watch / listen to the two ladies and 3 teen boys at the next table discuss their likes and dislikes and call each other on their cell phones.
Two things that bothered me from that night. First, the comment was made that "Have you ever watched Wife-Swap? The boys and I sit down and watch it every week." I'd like to say that I think the very idea of wife-swap should have the execs over at ABC burying their heads in shame. It's nice to know that the institution of marriage has become another ring in their three ring circus of entertainment. Later in the conversation, the second lady asked them if they ever watch The Amazing Race. One of the kids answered by saying "No, mom doesn't allow us to watch that." Hmmmmm, lets see, makes them watch Wife-Swap, won't let them watch The Amazing Race. That's like, makes them play with snakes but won't let them pet a puppy.
The other thing that bothered me about that table was what the two ladies were drinking. When you have to consider that others are riding in your car you should be adult enough to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages. I heard one time that you can have one drink per hour and still be "ok" enough to drive. Even using that skewed logic, neither of the ladies at the next table should have driven home. Not only did they endanger their own lives, they endangered the lives of their sons as well. You want to drink and drive, fine. Don't do it with your kids in the car. There's no reason to punish the innocent with your stupidity.
