WonderDog! Up, up, and away!
So we found out this weekend while visiting my mom that our Boxer can scale a four foot fence. We had been careful to move things away from the fence that we thought he could get on to leap over. When we returned from church Sunday afternoon there was a message from one of mom's neighbors that the brown dog in the pen had jumped over the fence and chased another mutt from the neighborhood away. I'm only assuming, knowing my dog like I do, that he was protecting mom's dog. Of course, mom's dog probably started it. Let me lay out the scenario as I see it in my head. Moxie (my Boxer) and Corkie (mom's Corgi) are minding their own business in the back yard. The neighborhood bully (ie. the brown mutt from down the street) comes by and starts nosing around. Corkie, being her usual self, starts in with the yapping. For a 20 pound dog, she barks like she's a German Shepherd. I'm sure the barking escalated and the brown mutt said something that offended Corkie. Being the proper gentle-dog that he is, Moxie took it upon himself to scale the fence and chase the brown mutt home. When we got home, he was laying in the dog house like nothing had happened. (This also explains the calls I get at home saying my dog is out but when I get there, he's laying in the yard with the "What? I been here all day." look). I guess before long, my backyard will look like a minimum security prison; complete with barbed wire rolls and guard towers. So, if you see a Boxer in an orange jumpsuit tearing down US61 it's just Moxie making a break for it.
