My "hat trick"

First, some background. About a month or so ago I decided I wanted to get a better 9mm to carry. I had a 9mm but it really wasn't suited for carrying. I even sold two of my other handguns to help offset the cost. I started researching compact sized 9mm firearms. I browsed manufacturers sites, I read news groups and forums, I read endless reviews. I decided on a Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact. Now came the fun part; finding one.

Every website I checked had them either "Out of Stock" or "Back Ordered." I called / visited many pawn / gun shops in the tri-state area. I asked around on many of the gun-related forums I'm a member of. Every shop had either the .45 or the .380 but none of them had the 9mm. I really wanted the 9mm so I could share ammo with a 9mm rifle I already have. I finally resigned to just putting my name on a waiting list. Another "bump in the road" is that Wal-Mart has been sold out of 9mm ammo since November. I'm sure they've gotten some in but it was always sold out by the time I checked.

So today it was a little slow at work. I'm calling around to the shops yet again asking if they've magically gotten a Bersa 9mm in. I get the same story from each. One actually said he had called Bersa this week and they couldn't even tell him when they'd be able to ship some this way. I had forgotten one local shop but I didn't have much hope they'd have one. They only keep about 12 guns in stock. I called them and left a message.

So it's getting close to 4:30 and I'm getting ready to leave when my cell phone rings. It's the little local shop I had left a message at. He said he only had 2 9mm that were small enough to conceal. I'm only half listening because I'm sure it'll be the same song and dance I've heard from all the others. Blah blah blah Taurus blah blah Bersa. Excuse me? Did you say you had a Bersa 9mm in stock? You do? A Bersa Thunder 9 Ultra Compact Pro? It is? How late are you open? Whenever I get there? Perfect! Score 1.

I had to run Maryn to a birthday party and stop by Wal-Mart to get some diapers. We're scooting to get diapers and I thought that while I was there I might as well check the Sporting Good section. The entire shelf of 9mm was full; practically over flowing. I picked up 2 boxes. Score 2.

I know what you're thinking. A hat trick is 3 consecutive points. Where's the third point? Hold on.....wait for it........our tax return was deposited this morning. Score 3. WOOHOO! So without further ado (I know I've ado'ed enough as it is) here she is:
