Who would leave here to go to work?

Anytime anyone at MoDOT leaves to go to the outside sector that's the question everyone asks. And, for most on the outside, a State government job is what they are shooting for. As far as outsiders know, we all stand around holding signs getting paid $40 an hour. I know, pretty silly.

Anyways, recently someone I work with called me on my way home from work. It's a little unusual to get work calls on my personal cell after hours but not unheard of. It wasn't exactly work related. Her boyfriend works at a company in Palmyra called North East Power. He had been telling her that they were looking to hire another "IT guy" and she thought I'd be perfect for the job. He had given her the number for the Administrative Assistant there. I decided to give her a call when I got home. Don't get me wrong, the state is a great place to work. Unfortunately, I'm way down on the "Good Ol' Boy" list and don't expect a promotion until the person above me retires (in 9-10 years).

If my sources are right, 14 people turned in an application. Of those, 4 were brought in for an interview. Luckily, I was one of those 4. So was my sister-in-law. Anyway, of the 4 candidates, 2 will be brought back in for a second interview. The second interview will consist of the same panel of three that did the first interview plus the CEO. I felt very at ease during the first interview. Maybe it was the fact that the panel was made up of all women. Not that I think I have some sort of power over women. I just spend almost every waking moment of my life surrounded by them. Five here at home, 10-15 at lunch every day, etc. Since we're in the holiday season we probably won't get a call back for the second interview until after Thanksgiving. I'm not packing my suit just in case. Keep your fingers crossed. This could be a big step up for me and for the family. I know the range they gave in the paper is more than I make now after 9 years with the state. It could be the financial shot in the arm we need to actually keep our head above water on a regular basis. Who knows, we might actually start moving forward instead of just treading water. Pray hard and pray often, between waiting on this and moving, my nerves are getting really thin.

But on a happy note, I got a new coffee pot. WOOHOO! The eye opening power of the black bean is mine again. It is the one bean to rule them all.
