Revelation 21:8
I know it's mean but kinda fun at the same time. This week at VBS I got to use one of my favorite verses, Rev. 21:8. Here it is from the NIV.
How exactly does this come up in VBS? Here's how it played out. There's a boy sitting at a table with kool-aid and cookies in front of him. His glass is empty and he says "I didn't get any kool-aid." I respond with "Really? So why is there kool-aid in the bottom of your glass and dripping off your face?" "I don't know, my glass was empty when it got to the table." "Interesting. Would you like to hear what Revelation 21:8 says? Good, here goes. Liars will burn in the lake of fire." To that his eyes got real wide. I asked if he'd like to rephrase his last comment. Suddenly it's "Can I have a refill?" I guess it goes back to the previous post on consequences. Somebody's got to tell them that their actions will have permanent consequences. Ok, so maybe it's a little rough telling little kids that liars go to Hell. Without God, everyone goes to Hell. It's at least a way to remind them that God is listening and that life has consequences. If it makes them stop and think before they tell their next lie (and there will be a next lie) then it's planted a seed. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
